One potential barrier many mature-aged workers feel they face is competing against younger jobseekers when applying for employment. It is important to emphasise the skills, maturity and life experience that older workers can bring to a company.
Shane is a mature aged worker who attended Directions’ Career Centre Northam to receive career advice and resume assistance. Career Development Officer Vikki Sinagra has been working with Shane since December 2016 and have together completed a Career Action plan, resume update, covering letter template, and selection criteria advice and registered with Career Centre’s Northam Job Board email update.
Shane had found a role of interest on the Northam Job Board email update, which is sent on a weekly basis to assist clients in their job searching. He applied with his updated resume for a Truck Driver/Water Cart Operator role and found success, staring Monday 21st August.
Shane stated “Due to the staff support at Directions’ Career Centre I have ended up with the ultimate job” and he went on to say it took a great deal of perseverance and patience for the right opportunity to come up.
Shane wanted to encourage other job hunters by saying “Don’t give up”. Directions would like to wish Shane all the very best with his new position. Congratulations Shane!
